Inspiring history from Vunnava.... (sharing what I heard, understand, interpreted from several sources; Please add / correct if there are any mistakes here)

Here is a picture of Gandhiji and Vunnava Raja Gopala krishnaiah (who belongs to our village). This is taken on 5th February 1946 - almost 1.5 years before India got its independence.

it seems Gopala Krishniah is default translator of Gandhiji speeches from Hindi to Telugu - whenever Gandhiji tours Andhra Pradesh. Gopala Krishnaiah and his brother Vunnava Venkata Ramaiah - are active in the independence movement through "Dakshina Bharata Hindi Prachar Sabha"

(From http://www.dbhpsabha.org/) 'Hindi Prachar Sabha’ was a movement that emerged as part of Freedom Movement and the leaders who led the nation to ‘FREE INDIA’ felt the necessity of making a single Indian Language the National Language, and through that language unify the people and thereby intensify National Integration.

It seems back in 1930s/40s, Vunnava also had an examination center for taking Hindi pradhamika, madhyamika, rashtra (different levels in hindi language exam). And many aspiring teachers from guntur and neighboring districts come to our village to take the exam.

This is one of the reasons why Vunnava has a rich history of producing so many Hindi teachers - ghanta venkateswarlu garu, chennupati yanadi mastaru, chennupati venkateswarlu mastaru, manukonda nagendram garu, kharidu venkateswarlu (and many more) - from our village.

We are now working to gather the details of all these teachers for inclusion into our next news letter.

If you want to learn more about the silent revolution happening in Guntur District in the construction of the burial grounds, here is your starting point - get these two books.

The work done by Maha Prasthana Seva Samithi and the guidance they are giving to many villages - are commendable and noble.

Let us all learn from other villages and work towards constructing burial ground in vunnava in the current year 2013.

Vunnava Maha Prasthanam (Burial Ground) Updates

The village doesn't have proper cemetery now. If it rains, it causes lot of problems for the people at the site and also even to approach. There is high need to construct the approach road as well as some facility to complete the formalities even if it rains.

Based on the feedback and interest, we have been elaborating this proposal further and we have talked to Gummadi Radhakrishnamurthy Garu (Board member of Maha Prasthanam Committee, Guntur). They have constructed around 50 burial grounds in Guntur District. Our village is now catching up with the rest of the villages and following that model.

We have reached a stage where we can propose maha prasthanam project with all of you with the estimation breakup and execution plan.

[1]  Gummadi garu visited Vunnava along with Jasthi Ramarao on April 14th;
Got good feedback from Gummadi garu on the list of items that need to be done and also the sequence of activities.

The total estimate seem to be coming around between 5,50,000 to 6,00,000 (5.5 to 6 lakhs) as follows.

NoItemEstimate (Rupees)
1Leveling the land:
We need to cut the weeds and level the land first with JCB tractors
5000
2Planting the trees:
We need to then plant some native plants to give the place some character and shape
5000
3Maintaining the trees:
We need to arrange small fence around the tree and water the trees for 2.5 years. Taking care of the trees until these take roots and establish.
10000
4Compound wall:
We then need to build a compound wall around the mahaprasthanam
100000
5Gate and Arch:
Once the compound wall is built, we need to finish the entrace with a gate and arch
40000
6Kiln to Cremate:
This is for creamating the body. For our village size, one kiln is sufficient.
60000
7Shed covering the kiln:
This shed covers the kiln from the weather (rain, wind, sun)
250000
8Room and Slab:
We need to build a slabbed room for the people to perform the last rites (for hair cutting, taking bath, changing the dress, urinals). (for hair cutting, bath, changing the clothes)
100000
9Approach (concrete cement)
road to mahaprasthanam

[3]  Vunnava Maha Prasthanam steering committee - for coordinating the execution of the project - is formed with the following members to begin with.
vunnava.com thanks them for their time and efforts in coordinating this project

Chennupati  (munsif) Veeraraghavaiah9247174461
Kommineni Nageswara Rao9949306877
Kurra Sambiah
Kharidu Sreenu
Ghanta Veera Raghavaiah
That is a good team who can rally the community together. However, the donors also have the option of adding additional members to the maha prasthanam committee. Donors have equal obligation to ensure that the money they are donating is property being used and quality work is being done.

[4] Vunnava Maha Prasthanam Steering Committee would be getting the guidance from the following as required

Gummadi Radhakrishna Murthy Garu (Maha Prasthanam Committee, Guntur)
Ummineni Ranga Rao (Chirala) (civil engineer who provided technical consulting to several projects)
Kurra Rambabu, Annapurna Architects (Guntur) (who has the expertise in planning the constructions per vastu and who is familiar with vunnava logistics).

[5]  We believe that this project can be completed in the year 2013 with all your support and interest.  If any of your are interested to sponsor one or several of the items listed above, please let us know at vunnava.com@gmail.com   Local community members are also trying / exploring options to secure the funding from government agencies.  We will share the project progress and donor information in the next news letter of vunnava.com (coming out in July 1st week)

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
